Kappei ~ Adopted!!!

Kappei, now Casey, went to his new home in Naperville, Illinois on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005.

Birthday: November 22nd, 2001
Date Entered Rescue: October 25th, 2005
Adoption Date: November 22nd, 2001

Kappei was found in Frankfort, Illinois by a group of young boys. He had been tied to a sign post with a plastic jump-rope. He was taken into the local animal shelter, where he was nicknamed Monster, which unfortunately was a kill shelter because it was so small. They contacted MSIR and we agreed to pick him up and temp foster him through the upcoming Meet & Greet. Kappei life before he was found is a complete mystery. We know he had been abused in some form as he was terrified of rough play and his front tooth had been broken and rotted.

Kappei was due to go up to his permanent foster home in Michigan the following Monday. So we decided that even though he had only been in rescue for 4 days that we would bring him to the October 29th M&G for exposure and socialization. Fortunately for him it became more than that. He met Diane and her son Michael early on. They were set on adopting a female, but Kappei had other plans for them. He plopped himself in Michael's lap and demanded his undivided attention! After looking around at all the other Shibas, Diane and Michael decided, or maybe it was Kappei =), that he was their perfect match! The bad news was that Diane had to go out of town on 2 consecutive business trips, so Kappei had to wait for three more weeks to go to his forever home.

In those last few weeks with us, Kappei continued to grow more friendly, playful and trusting of us. His appetite increased too! By the night of November 22nd Kappei was ready to go home. He was in the best mood we had ever seen him in and it only got better when he saw Michael again. After making the rounds of his new home he glued himself to Michael's leg and looked at us as if to say "I'm happy; you can go now."

Kappei, now Casey, is happy with his new life as the only dog and the little brother to his favorite boy in the world! He gets 3 walks a day and undivided attention whenever he wants it. It just goes to show, we don't pick our dogs. They have ultimate wisdom and in essence choose us as their companions.
